Reader's Workshop -
This year we will be using the Teacher's College Reading and Writing Workshop model to guide our instruction.
The Mission of TCRWP: The mission of the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project is to help young people become avid and skilled readers, writers, and inquirers. We accomplish this goal through research, curriculum development, and through working shoulder – to – shoulder with students, teachers, and school leaders. The organization has developed state-of-the-art tools and methods for teaching reading and writing, for using performance assessments and learning progressions to accelerate progress, and for literacy-rich content-area instruction. Thousands of teachers regard the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project as a continual source of professional renewal and education. -http://readingandwritingproject.org/about |
Guided Reading -
Students will be grouped by current reading levels. Teaching strategies are discussed according to the needs of the group. Students received leveled book readers in baggies at the beginning of the week. Don’t forget to log those books in. Any chance your child gets to read is wonderful! Write it down in the reading log! Students will be reading independently (in class) for 15-20 minutes in the beginning of the workshop. Time will increase as student’s stamina increases throughout the year. Parents are encouraged to allow children to read at least 20 minutes a day when they are home! Students will be retested after 4 to 6 weeks to assess for growth.
